Under the Radar

I was an under the radar resident of Torque Motel; I came in as a nanny for Birdie, caring for her daughter Sam (late 75 to late 76). A flaky 18 year old, I was drawn to Artuad because my brother Larry had lived there before, and his tales of life there were intriguing. He won the first art contest held there with his little sculptures. I dressed up a lot, learned to slack rope walk, painted, sewed and made collages; in general, learned a lot about my creative side. Engaged in a lot of performance art, although I did turn down parts in “adult entertainment” films. A wonder, I was perpetually broke. No wonder Burning Man felt like coming home when I finally made it out to the desert, Artuad had prepared me well.
